KIDS CENTER

At Taos Ski Valley, we have all kinds of activities for families and teens. Mountain vacations have always been a family affair here, so we make it easy to introduce your children to snowsports while ensuring you have a great time too. We have developed a series of unique children's programs, led by specially trained instructors and housed in a state-of-the-art facility that kids will be comfortable using as a "home base" during the day. Children even have their own area, pint-sized lifts, special terrain, and equipment shop.

Reservations are strongly recommended for all the Children's Center Programs.

MINI ELITE PROGRAM

(3 year olds)

This one-hour ski lesson is for three-year-olds enrolled in Kinderkare. The program is designed for children who are not ready for an all day ski experience. It provides a shorter ski time to test the readiness of a child for a more comprehensive ski experience. Lessons are provided by specially trained instructors. Rental equipment is included (Helmet rental is optional). The class size is limited to 3 students. The cost is $40 in addition to Kinderkare. Reservations are recommended.

(Three years old & potty trained — first grade)

A passion for snowsports starts here! Kids three years old through first grade learn the basics of the sport in small classes during this all-day program. They'll also enjoy fun indoor and outdoor activities while they make new friends. Includes all-day lifts, lessons, lunch, and rental.

  
JUNIOR ELITE II

(Second grade — 15 years old)

Our friendly snow coaches teach a love of the sport and the mountains to older kids of all skiing abilities. Not only will your kids be better skiers, they'll build their confidence and have a great time too! Includes all-day lifts, lessons, lunch, and rentals.

  
JUNIOR ELITE BOARDERS

(Four years old - 15  years old) 

Riders ages 4-15 years old can come shred with us at Taos Ski Valley's innovative NEW snowboarding program. Our all day program includes lift ticket, free rentals, lunch, and all-day instruction. If that's not for you, we offer half-day and private lessons as well.

JUNIOR SHREDDERS LOCAL'S CLINIC
 

 Shredders is a 5 week program for locals 3 to 15. The focus of our Shredders Junior Locals Clinic is on learning fundamentals, varied terrain and conditions, and most importantly having fun. Each day’s program includes a morning and afternoon lesson and lunch as well as a free lift ticket and free rental equipment. This program is oriented toward local children that want to improve their abilities to ski or snowboard or learn to ski or snowboard for the first time.

The Junior Locals Clinics are taught through our nationally recognized Children’s Ski and Ride School that includes some of the best skiers and riders in New Mexico.

The 2010/11 Shredders program will be a 5-week program, with an option to purchase extension days on other specified weeks (see dates below). You may select either Saturday or Sunday for the lessons, but we ask you are consistant in your day of choice throughout duration of the program . Children skiing or riding on extension days will be incorporated into daily Junior Elite lessons. Only Shredders participants will be eligible for this special discounted product!

THE MOUNTAIN SKILLS DEVELOPMENT CAMP
 

This program is for experienced Skiers and Riders 12 and older who are ready to take their sport to the next level. The Ernie Blake Snowsports School and the Taos Ski Patrol are teaming up to present a program that will explore Taos’ steeps and ridge accessed terrain, coupled with snow safety and mountain rescue curriculum. Children must be level 7 or above, and comfortable skiing Highline Ridge & Kachina Peak.

What to expect:

  • Weekly avalanche beacon practice
  • Snow science/snowpack analysis
  • Rescue scenarios
  • Avalanche Dog practice
  • Terrain analysis and route selection.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT KIND OF CLOTHING DO I NEED TO PROVIDE FOR MY CHILDREN?
For ski lessons the following items for your children are required:
1. Goggles or sunglasses, preferably with UV protection
2. Waterproof mittens or gloves

We also recommend the following items for your children:
1. Hat or hooded parka (if not using a helmet)
2. Ski socks (one pair only please)
3. Wind/Water resistant jacket & pants
4. Long underwear
5. Sunscreen
Please make sure to label your child's clothing

For the Kinderkare:
Please dress your child for active and sometimes messy play! Bring an extra set of indoor clothing, diapers and wipes and a special toy or blanket that will help your child feel more comfortable. If you would like your child to enjoy outside activities, please be sure to bring waterproof clothing and mittens, hat, UV protective sunglasses or goggles and sunscreen.

For Bebekare:
We have well equipped areas for sleeping and playing, as well as a quiet spot with a rocking chair for nursing moms. Please bring diapers, wipes, changes of clothes, bottles and any food your baby may need during the day, as well as anything you feel will make him or her more comfortable.

WHAT KIND OF FOOD IS SERVED FOR LUNCH?
We have meat and vegetarian selections for soup   entrees, mashed potatoes everyday, a vegetable, tossed salad, and dessert. Please let us know if your child has any food allergies.

WHAT ARE THE HOURS FOR HALF DAY AND FULL DAY  LESSONS?
Check in for full day and am half day lessons begin at 8am and run until 9am daily. Pick up for the am half day is noon. Check in for pm half day lessons begins at 12:00pm. and we ask you check in no later than 12:30pm, so that your child can be fitted for rentals and out in time for their afternoon lesson. Because of the late start time your child will be ready for pickup at 3:00pm.

WHERE IS THE CHILDREN'S SKI SCHOOL LOCATED?
When you enter the Taos Ski Valley you drop down a hill to our parking area. The children's center is the first building you will see on your right hand side. There is a large wooden sign at the edge of the parking lot with children's center listed on it. You can park in our temporary parking for the children's center to register your children and then drive to the main parking area for all day parking. You can also park in the main parking area and catch one of our parking lot shuttles which makes a stop at the children's center, check your children in and then catch the shuttle up to our resort center for ticket sales, ski rentals, adult ski school and the main lift.
